While we may not be the first to report on this, we could not sit idly by and let such a tasty truth nugget go untasted by our devoted RS readership. Your prayers have been answered: A remake of Short Circuit! A little known basement blog known as Variety reports that Dimension has acquired the rights for a remake to further strengthen its family-esque portfolio. What will the future bring for everyone's favorite soul-enhanced robot? Will he team with up with Los Locos yet again to rip off more car stereos or commit a daring daylight robbery of a subway train containing all the MTA's money or "money train," if you will? Will there be a a heart-tugging chase scene set to Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out for a Hero? Perhaps an addiction to the drug Nuke that's ruining a slightly-in-the-future Detroit?
...According to Variety, "S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both "Short Circuit" films, have been hired to write the remake. David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce with John Hyde. Deal was made by Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein, who called "Short Circuit" a worthy addition to its family film slate."
